Oklahoma Wheat Crop Update — May 5, 2026

Oklahoma wheat producers are entering a critical stretch as drought stress, uneven rainfall, disease pressure and an earlier-than-normal harvest window shape the 2026 crop outlook.

This Oklahoma Wheat Crop Update looks at current wheat conditions across the state, with a special focus on southwest and western Oklahoma. The crop remains under pressure, with nearly half of Oklahoma wheat rated poor to very poor, while only a small share is rated good to excellent. Even so, some areas near Apache, El Reno, and parts of Caddo and Washita counties are still showing yield potential where moisture and stand conditions have held on.

The big story is how uneven this crop has become. Some fields are moving toward harvest, some have already been sprayed out or desiccated and others may still have enough yield potential to protect. Producers should be scouting carefully for rust, wheat streak mosaic, barley yellow dwarf, true armyworm activity, and weed pressure in thin stands.
