Senator Stanley Recognizes Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Day

OKLAHOMA CITY — Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, is encouraging Oklahomans to recognize Oklahoma’s second-largest industry today by celebrating Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Day and National Aviation Day.

Stanley, chairwoman of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, noted that Oklahoma passed a state law in 2017 marking August 19 as Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Day. The date also coincides with National Aviation Day, which honors the birthday of aviation pioneer Orville Wright.

“Today, we celebrate Oklahoma’s rich aviation industry at a time when our aerospace and defense sector is flying higher than ever before,” Stanley said. “It is the fastest-growing contributor to Oklahoma’s economy, generating billions upon billions of economic activity across the state. More and more Oklahomans are finding new opportunities and building careers in this field as this industry continues to innovate and grow at a remarkable pace. Oklahoma has become a national leader in aviation and aerospace, and that work goes hand in hand with supporting our military and keeping this country safe.”

Stanley represents Senate District 42, which is home to Tinker Air Force Base.

“Tinker and the local businesses that support it employ thousands of Oklahomans who live in my district,” Stanley added. “I’m proud to represent a community that plays such a vital role in this industry. I hope today serves as a reminder that we need to keep supporting the workers and businesses that keep Oklahoma aerospace and defense strong.”
